3 Raw Dog Food Recipes for the Loyal Dog

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

When you say the words “a raw meat diet for dogs” to a pet owner who is used to give their pets commercially store-bought dog foods, it often gives a shiver down their spines. That’s especially so if images of a choking dog because of a bone has been well-conditioned in their minds.

Well, at least that’s what my cousin tells me. He said that although he’s read of the benefits of giving a dog raw food - usually health benefits like him being less susceptible to getting allergies, cancer, joint problems (yes, dogs get arthritis too), dental/ear/eye ailments, obesity, poor skin and coat, etc. - it still didn’t sit well with him at first. But he claims that once you overcome that first step (read: giving your dog his first partial or full raw food meal), the rest will be relatively easy.

To help you out, here are some recipes he’s tried. (Actually, he got these from a friend of his who has been feeding his dog bones, vegetables and raw meat since time immemorial).

Basic Raw Dog Food Recipe

Ingredients: half a cup of raw meat (ground poultry, lamb, chicken, organ meats, etc.), half a cup of pureed vegetables (choose your own veggies), one-fourth cup of whole grains, a teaspoon of bone meal powder, one-fourth teaspoon ascorbic acid powder, one-fourth teaspoon of kelp powder, one-fourth teaspoon minced garlic, and 2 teaspoons of an oil mixture (11 oz. cold-pressed canola oil, 2 oz. wheat germ oil, 2 oz. flax seed oil - the remainder, you can keep for future use).

Procedure. Mix together. Serve.

Carrot, Nuts and Broccoli Recipe

Ingredients: 1 whole carrot (peeled and sliced into bite sized bits), 4 to 6 small spears of broccoli (also cut into bite-sized bits), 6 peanuts.

Procedure. After washing the vegetables thoroughly, mix and serve. This provides your dog his daily calcium, potassium, beta-carotene, vitamin C, fiber and protein needs.

Banana and Apple Recipe

Ingredients: 1 banana, one-half of an apple, 4 tablespoons of cottage cheese.

Procedure. Peel the banana; cut into small pieces. Take off the skin of the apple and slice into bite sized pieces. Add cottage cheese and mix together. Serve. (A variation would be to add some raw chicken slices in the mix.)

Raw dog food usually gives you some fulfillment as a pet owner. Imagine being able to give your dog warmth, love, shelter and now, a healthy diet that will give him a longer, happy life. What pet owner wouldn’t want that?

Healthy Homemade Dog Food Recipes - Let’s Talk About It, OK?

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Now I’m no expert, I’m not a dog trainer, or dietitian, or any kind of “authority” on the subject of health or diet for dogs. But I’m no dummy either, and I’m sure the same can be said about you.

And I know this for certain;  The dog food in the cans that I’ve been feeding our poor little Nikki, an 8 year old, (once beautiful) Cocker Spaniel, is garbage, and I will never feed her that type of crap again.

So what will be my solution? To feed her healthy home made meals from recipes that I trust.

Now I want to say this before continuing;  Nikki is still beautiful, but her health is failing fast, and I can’t help but think that it’s been brought on by the crap in the cans that the big dog food manufacturers insist is “healthy and nutritious dog food”.

I can’t prove it, but it seems obvious to me, that the dog food companies could care less what they are providing to us as nourishment for our dogs, considering what we’ve learned recently about the ingredients they use in what they produce.

Another thing that really bugs me is; The Veterinarians we trusted our pet’s health to endorse many of these garbage products on the market.

So what can we do about it?

Well, all I can tell you is what I have done about it.

Several weeks ago, I made up my mind that I was going to go to the extra effort and expense,(although there’s not much extra expense involved), and feed our dog Nikki food that contains ingredients that I have confidence in.

In other words; I made up my mind that our dog would have food made from healthy homemade dog food recipes at home in our own kitchen.

The outcome of this decision is that I will know exactly what she’s eating. I will no longer have to wonder and worry about what the big dog food manufacturers are hiding concerning the ingredients they put in their canned and dry food.

Because believe me they have been hiding and telling lies a-plenty about what they put in the dog food they’ve been selling for a long, long time!

That fact has been proved, in the recent dog food scares and recalls, and all the reports we’ve read and heard after finding out they were poisoning our dogs with unreliable and unregulated ingredients from foreign suppliers.

My conclusion is simple: If I can’t trust the companies who claim to know what’s good for my dog, then I’ll take their job into my own hands.

I’ll feed my dog meals that are made from healthy homemade dog food recipes, and I’ll control the ingredients that goes into my dog’s meals.

It’s like everything else in this life; You get what you pay for, you reap what you sow…

We just had to have the convenience of being able to trust someone else to supply what our dog’s need for healthy nutrition.

Guess what? They failed. And they failed miserably. And our Veterinarians failed us too, by not warning us about the dangers involved with trusting these big dog food manufacturers.

So we’re left to our own devices. My answer is; Find a good resource for healthy homemade dog food and dog treat recipes, and take control of what your dog is eating. And don’t be fooled again!

It’s really not hard to find healthy homemade dog food recipes, and it’s not hard to prepare them either. My wife and I have found some really great recipes online, and most recently we found a dog food and dog treat recipe book that totally surpasses, (in every respect), all of the others.

I’m so thrilled about these homemade recipes that I’ve included a link below, (on top of the link to my web page)…

Take a look at that offer. It really is a tremendous bargain, and the dog treats and dog food recipes are incredibly easy to make. And as a BIG bonus, your dog will love them too, believe me!

Dog Food Recipes - the Little Known Dog Nutrition Alternative

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Using dog food recipes to make your dog’s meals from your own kitchen could be the best decision you make for your dog’s health. The pet food recalls have made dog owners take a much closer look at what they feed their K-9′s, which puts the pet food industry under a very unwelcome microscope.

For as long as most dog owners can remember, they have been providing their dog’s meals from a can or a bag bought from the store. There was no other way that was common to families. It was like putting gasoline in a car or buying clothes from a store. For feeding dogs, there was only one source - commercial dog food.

It’s hard to think of any other way when even our veterinarians recommend store brands. Some even sell them out of their offices. But to reduce your dog’s risk of health problems and disease, learning how to make his meals yourself is the best choice. If you choose the right dog food recipes, the meals you make for your dog will not contain the additives, chemicals, or other unhealthy ingredients that the commercial varieties have.

With dog food recipes, you decide what goes into the meals you prepare for your dog. It’s the best way to keep your dog safe from the possibility of another tainted pet food scare. If another one occurs, you will have absolutely no worries.

With smart planning, using dog food recipes can be less expensive and time consuming than most people think. Of course, it’s easier to quickly give your dog store brand food, but each time you do, you are decreasing his life span. I’m sure you’ll agree that your dog is worth the extra effort. The solid proof will be when you see his increased energy level and better overall health.

Dogs whose owners use dog food recipes to make their meals have longer lives, fewer health problems, and decreased risk of disease during their lifetimes. The extra expense for this type of diet ensures fewer vet bills and most importantly, less heartache from a sick pet or one that dies too soon.

I’m sure you can see why dog owners all over the world are using dog food recipes and switching to homemade meals. It’s safer and healthier for your dog, you have control over the ingredients, and your dog will live a longer, happier life.

The longer you continue to feed your dog commercial dog food, the more you shorten his life span day by day. With each meal it gets a little worse as if he is slowly being poisoned. If you’d like to learn how homemade dog food can reverse the damage and add years to your dog’s life, please visit Homemade Dog Food Benefits

Hello! Easy Dog Food Recipies!

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

When you choose to make your own dog food, you may just be saving it’s life. It is a known fact that commercial dog food contains toxins that can be extremely harmful to your dog. Now I am not saying that all of the dog food you see in the store is bad, but wouldn’t you feel better knowing exactly what your dog was eating?

One of the best ways to help your dog have a long healthy life-span, is by simply controlling what it eats. There are a ton of home made dog food recipes for German Shepherds as well as other dog breeds, that will make your dogs go wild (and keep them feeling their best). These recipes for healthy dog food meals contain all-natural ingredients that are free of preservatives and additives that can be harmful to man’s best friend.

One of the great home cooked dog food recipes that your dog will absolutely love, is a delicious chicken meal. You will need: 2 chicken thighs or breasts (skinless), 1 stalk celery - sliced, 3 peeled and halved carrots, 2 potatoes that are peeled and cubed, 2 cups uncooked rice and 5-6 cups of water.

Put the chicken into a pot of cold water. Add the celery, carrots and potatoes, and some salt to add some flavor. Let it all simmer for around two hours, or until the chicken becomes tender. Add the rice and let everything cook in low heat for about 30 minutes until the rice absorbs most of the liquid.

Take the pot off of the burner. (Be Careful not to get burned), and take the meat off the chicken bone. When the chicken meat is in the pot, stir until everything is well mixed, and then let it all cool down before serving it to your dog.

Another one of my favorite home made dog food recipes for German Sheperds is a mouth-watering beef mix. The ingredients are really simple. All you need is 2.5 kgs of ground beef (or lamb), brown rice, broccoli stalks and 3 potatoes.

Fry ground beef, in a pan until golden brown. Boil 4-5 cups of water then add the broccoli. Add the potatoes to the frying pan with the beef. Mix everything together in the pot, add pepper and serve with the brown rice.

Don’t forget the gravy! - literally - Add more flavor to your recipes for healthy dog food with this awesome gravy. The ingredients are: 1 boneless and skinless chicken breast, 4 cups water, a cup of flour and 2 eggs (beaten). Boil the chicken breast for about half an hour, then separate the meat. Add some flour to the chicken broth, use a whisk to remove the lumps. Add the beaten eggs. Cook until the mix is thick. Use a food processor to puree chicken meat, then add to the gravy. Refrigerate.

What meal would be complete without the desert? Make your own dog food frosty treat that will make your dog go bananas! Here are the needed ingredients: 32 oz vanilla yogurt, 2 tbsp. Peanut butter, 1 mashed banana or a jar of baby food (fruit). In home cooked dog food recipes like this, all you have to do is blend everything together, and you get a delectable treat for your furry friend.

These are just a few great recipes you can use to make your own dog food. As you can see, they are hassle-free and you will not have to worry about the health of your dog anymore.

Another dog owner who owns a dog with allergies was kind enough to share healthy homemade dog food recipes that worked for her. She prepared a stew with only lean chicken meat and potatoes as ingredients. She fed this food to her dog as a start and managed to observe that her dog’s condition began to improve. After this, she started to include vegetables and barley into the stew. Through time, she was able to take her dog out of commercial dog foods and only served the dog with this mixture of this homemade dog food. Not only did it solve the allergy, also it helped to keep her dog healthy and energetic.

It has also been found that venison is a type of meat that is low-allergy for the dog. It might help to prepare a homemade recipe that uses this type of meat. Also, duck is known to be hypoallergenic or free from allergens, the chemicals that cause allergies. It might also be helpful to the dog if a homemade dog recipe will incorporate or be solely based on duck meat.

Although a bit expensive than chicken, turkey are known to be helpful to dogs with allergies. A simple homemade recipe will simply call for ground turkey rolls, carrots and green beans. Mix these three together and feed them to the dog. Dogs are known to love this food.

Melinda Smith loves animals and is concerned that the commercial pet food conglomerates have convinced the majority of pet owners to feed their pets commercial pet food that is made up of very questionable ingredients, and cooked in a way that strips out practically all the nutrients that may have been there. Melinda believes that all dogs deserve to be fed homemade dog food. For some great healthy homemade dog food recipes, that will seriously make your dog’s mouth water, click on either of the hyperlinks above.

How to Avoid Feeding Your Bulldog Tainted Dog Food

Monday, February 7th, 2011

The primary ingredients in your pet’s food does not have to be bad for it to cause tainted dog food. All it takes is one ingredient to be less that acceptable for an entire production run of tainted dog food to be shipped to outlets worldwide. Since pet food manufacturers do not make each ingredient in their product, any one of the separate components can be tainted and will affect the entire product.

It is sometimes difficult to find the source of tainted dog food as evidenced by the recent outbreak of deaths and illnesses caused by tainted pet food. If any one of the ingredients, including the main source of meat, is tainted, it will have detrimental effect on the entire batch. For example, if something enters the food supply of one of the meats that may not be a problem for that animal, it cause tainted dog food if the additive is fatal to canines.

Apple seeds for instance, can cause cyanide poisoning in dogs, but is not harmful to chickens, If a chicken has eaten apple seeds and ends up in the dog food, the cyanide may still be present causing illness and possibly death to the dogs. In the most recent incidence of tainted dog food, wheat gluten was thought to have been tainted, causing the problems with tons of pet food. Many organic pet foods do not use wheat in any form in their products, due to the adverse reaction to the protein expected in many animals. However, some companies do use it as a protein source.

Protect Your Pet From Contamination

When a large, reputable supplier is a recipient of bad food ingredients it may be difficult to protect your pet from the effects of tainted dog food. However, checking the ingredients of all pet foods can help in the fight against that possibility. Making sure the ingredients supply the protein and grains needed for health of the pet can reduce the chance of your animal from being the victim of tainted dog food.

Many pet foods use preservatives along with artificial colors and flavorings to enhance the appearance and taste of their foods. Pet foods made with quality ingredients will not need these additives to convince your dog to eat the product and many should simply be avoided. While many less expensive brands of pet food are perfectly safe, made under the same strict guidelines to avoid the potential of tainted dog food, some of the lesser-known brands may contain products that are not healthy for the animal.

Monday, February 7th, 2011

For nearly 70 years Hill’s Pet Foods has been formulating pet food products to help animals stay healthy and to protect them against develop additional problems throughout their lifetime. Being committed to pet health has led to the creation of Science Diet dog food that has been found to keep pets not only well fed, but also healthier.

Developed by a veterinarian to help a man’s guide dog through kidney troubles, Science Diet dog food takes into the account the belief that a dog’s general health is guided by its nutrition. Different Ages Have Different Needs

From the time a puppy is brought home the nutritional needs will change and with Science Diet dog food the changing requirements are blended into the different types of food for different aged dogs. Additionally, the size and weight of the dog will also determine its nutritional needs and the folks at Hill’s develop the food for the different types of animals they count as their customers.

Any pet owner can find out from the makers of Science Diet dog food the amount of Science Diet dog food, or any of their other varieties that is right for their companion. While many animals will eat until they feel full, that amount may be too much for the breed, the age and the size. Since animals cannot communicate with humans in words, their actions speak volumes and when a pet turns their nose up to certain brands of food, consider it a request for something with more taste. However, Science Diet dog food can reduce the need for them to communicate any feelings of ill health.
